On this momentous milestone of our 25th Anniversary, we reflect on how far we’ve come and recommit ourselves to the work of the next 25 years and beyond. 

Since 1999, we've seen meaningful progress in Montana. For example:

• In 2010, Montana voters capped payday loan rates, which disproportionately targeted single moms.
• Montana’s Medicaid Expansion, passed in 2015, has eased the gender wage gap burden and in 2022 financed almost half of all births in the state. 
• In 2023, Montana invested $14 million to make childcare more affordable and expanded Medicaid for 12 months of postpartum care. 

You helped drive this progress forward. Through the persistence and dedication of the WFM community, more women have safe places when facing violence, pathways to financial security, and greater representation in the Montana Legislature. Your contributions are shaping a more just and equitable future for all women in Montana. 

You’ve likely noticed that many of the economic and health challenges we faced 25 years ago are still present today. WFM is here to remind you that while the road ahead may seem tough, organizations across Montana are working hard to improve the lives of women—like the 14 organizations WFM funded in 2024.

As WFM embarks on our next 25 years, we consider the complex challenges women face. We know women should define success on their own terms and deserve an economy that supports them. Most importantly, WFM commits to taking risks to pursue our mission, amplifying the voices of women and girls with diverse perspectives often not heard in the media or the halls of government. and using our position and endowment to create opportunities for women to tell their stories, to redefine norms, and to lead.
